The timeless SPIRIT OF RADIO!

Turn up the radio” by Autograph, “Spirit of Radio” by Rush to my personal favourite “Radio Ga Ga” where Queen writes “So don't become some background noise, A backdrop for the girls and boys, Who just don't know or just don't care, And just complain when you're not there”. I agree with all these songs about the “spirit of radio” being alive and sustainable. The electromagnetic 87.5 to 108.0 MHz radio waves have been an integral part of my life till now and will remain a source of inspiration, knowledge, entertainment and energy for the rest of my life. Spotify, satellite radio or any other music source will never replace my #iheartradio for the following reasons:
1. THE HUMAN COMPONENT – radio has local human announcers with interesting voices and personalities. These people on the radio provide fun morning show commentary, real genuine human stories with a personal, local touch and a feeling that someone is riding shotgun with you on your workday, on your back porch or wherever you are moving and shaking.
2. CONTENT – local news and current events, emergency issues, traffic reports, sales at local stores that support local business, contests where you can win stuff, and new and trending music. All this content can be obtained by listening to a LOCAL radio station.
3. ENERGY AND THE HEARTBEAT OF A CITY – by listening to a local radio station you support the local community, local musicians and artists, local charities and most of all you are a part of the community spirit where you hang your hat. I feel local radio is analogous to the heartbeat and pulse of a city or town and a person can really feel the “energy” it is broadcasting out on the airwaves to all the listeners.
If I had to give radio some constructive feedback the one thing I would suggest is don’t play a song more than two times per day. Even if I wrote a song that was currently being played on the radio and providing me with performance royalties I would want a song restricted in playback. I truly believe in the “keep people wanting more” strategy rather than the “overdone and repetitiveness”.
So next time you’re tuning the dial during a road trip, baking cinnamon buns at home or slinging a hammer during a workday tune that dial to something local with a groove that keeps you always on the move!
Stay in touch and stay in tune,
Kent
